Redcliffe Plantation Fieldtrip

On September 3, 2009, all IB Juniors traveled to Redcliffe Plantation State Park in Beech Island , South Carolina .  The students participated in a workshop centered on the Document Based Question.  This is a skill vital for success on both AP and IB Assessments.

Students were led by Ms. Laney (park director) and were exposed to a plethora of primary documents.  An example is the comparison and contrast of the mansion and the slave quarter.  The acknowledgement of homes as a primary document was novel to many students!  In addition, Ms. Laney introduced us to many of the people who lived on the farm through meticulous records, personal letters, maps, and other primary and secondary sources.  This was truly a trip in which we encountered History through action!
